Great Falls, Virginia has a heritage rich in American history. The city of some 9,000 residents takes its name from the Great Falls of the Potomac, the largest in a series of treacherous, rocky falls that mark a fault line along the river and drops 75 feet over a two mile distance. The main road through Great Falls is Georgetown Pike, which was once a buffalo trail that winded along the Potomac River over 300 years ago.

Recognized by Money Magazine as one of the "Best Places to Live" in 2007 and as one of the "25 Top Earning Towns," it's easy to see why this exclusive horse-oriented community is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after places to live. Great Falls is an upscale residential area that features luxury homes and single-family dwellings on lots of at least one-half acre in size.

Although it has undergone considerable growth, Great Falls remains rural in atmosphere. The Early American-style village center features quaint shops and fine restaurants. Nearby Sugarland Run is a community of approximately 1,000 older homes and townhouses built during 1960s. Located just northeast of Sterling and a bit east of the Dulles Mall, the neighborhood features interconnected sidewalk and paths that wind through the area's woods near the Potomac. Both towns are near the Fairfax/Loudon County border just 20 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. The Tysons Corner shopping mall and the Galleria at Tysons II are both nearby.
